Children's fables are tales aimed at imparting a lesson to the little ones based on values education.
It is said
that a fox invited a heron to dinner and served soup in a flat plate. The
heron, with its long beak, couldn't eat anything. Days passed, and the Fox and
the Heron, although good friends, hadn't seen each other for a long time. So,
when they met by a lake, they hugged and talked a lot before parting. The fox,
before saying goodbye, invited the heron for lunch the next day.
The Fox's
Invitation to the Heron
The heron
gladly accepted the fox's invitation.
The Visit of
Mrs. Heron to Mrs. Fox
The next
day, the heron woke up early, spent the morning fixing her white plumage, and
skipped breakfast to arrive at the fox's house with a hearty appetite. Upon
arrival, the fox welcomed her friend warmly. After a pleasant chat, the fox
suggested moving to the dining room as lunch was ready.
The Heron's
Surprise
The heron
was surprised by the variety of delicacies before her: soups, meats, sauces,
fish, sorbets, and exquisite desserts. Everything smelled so good, and the
heron was anticipating a great meal. However, the innocent heron forgot that
the fox was cunning and malicious, and her only intention was to mock her.
For this
reason, the fox had served all the food on flat trays, knowing that the heron
couldn't taste a single bite due to her long beak. "Now you can start,
Mrs. Heron," said the fox cunningly.
The Heron
Can't Satisfy Her Hunger
The heron
tried to eat but couldn't; obviously, her beak was not suitable for that
purpose.
"Go
ahead, my friend," the fox repeated, "everything is so
delicious!"
While the
heron looked disheartened, the fox devoured everything on the trays. For a long
time, the fox happily told her friends about what she had done to the poor
heron and hummed a little song that said, "Oh! What a laugh, oh, what a
laugh; I mocked the heron, for without lunch, I left her."
Months
Passed
One day, the
fox and the heron met again and greeted each other like old friends. When
saying goodbye, the heron kindly invited the fox to dinner.
With
pleasure," the fox replied. "I'll be there on time."
The Fox's
Visit to the Heron
On the
agreed day, the fox went to the heron's house. As soon as she entered, she
smelled the enticing aroma coming from the kitchen, making her quite hungry.
"I'll surely have partridges in sauce, chicken with rice, fish,"
thought the fox, salivating.
The Moment
of Revenge
Soon, the
heron began to serve. Even more provocative smells reached the fox's nose, and
her desire to eat increased. However, to her surprise, there were no plates or
dishes. Everything was in long-necked and narrow-necked vessels. "Help
yourself with confidence, Fox friend; I prepared this meal thinking of you and
what you would like most," said the heron, glancing at her guest. The fox tried
to reach into the vessels to eat, but she couldn't. She had to settle for
licking the mouth of the vessels. "My dear friend, please eat. Aren't the
dishes tasty? Or are you not hungry?" said the heron. The fox understood
the mockery.
She left without having tasted a single crumb, with her
head down, in a bad mood, and with her tail between her legs, she went back to
her burrow.
The heron, on the other hand, started singing while washing
the vessels to put them back in their place.
"I got my revenge on the fox; she didn't taste a bite
of what I prepared. Hungry and embarrassed, she returned to her den! And when
everyone found out what happened, the whole world laughed."
